Defense of the Master’s Thesis by Student Abdullah Hamarsheh in Criminal Science

Researcher Abdullah Hamarsheh, a student in the Master’s program of Criminal Science, defended his thesis titled: “The Crime of Seizing Influence in Palestinian Legislation in Light of the United Nations Convention against Corruption (a Comparative Study).”

This study aimed to reveal the crime of seizing the influence as a corruption crime, and to enrich the Palestinian legal library with a new topic and an advanced track of research in this field, as this is considered the first Palestinian thesis of its kind that dealt with this dangerous crime.

This thesis was supervised by Dr. Abdullah Mahmoud, Dr. Nour Adas, and Dr. Hekmat Amarna. The committee recommended that the thesis be approved and published due to the importance of its subject so that it would receive the highest academic degree at this stage.

The Arab American University Hosts the Director of the Erasmus+ Office in Palestine

The Arab American University hosted the Director of the Erasmus+ Office in Palestine, Professor Dr. Abdul Karim Daraghmeh on its campus in Jenin. Dr. Daraghmeh was accompanied by Ms. Aya Faqha from the Erasmus Office, where they visited the University with the aim of strengthening cooperation and partnership between the University and the Erasmus+ office.

They were received by Dr. Adli Saleh, Advisor to the University Board of Directors for Planning, Development and Quality Affairs, Dr. Muayad Abusaa, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Professor Dr. Mohammad Asia, Vice President for Ramallah Campus, and Assistant Vice President for Planning, Development and Quality Dr. Sami Al-Sadr and the Director of the International Projects and Grants office, Ms. Samah Khalaf.

Defense of the First Three Theses of AAUP's Ph.D. in Nursing Program

AAUP Faculty of Graduate Studies in Ramallah witnessed the defense of first theses for the students of Ph.D. in Nursing Program, the first program in Palestine that was launched in 2019. Theses presented by the researchers, Fekri Bsharat, Maysa’ Kasabra and Ibrahim Abu Ras, under the supervision of a number of local and international professors in the field of nursing.   

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Asia, AAUP Vice President, expressed his pride of this qualitative and distinguished program, including an elite group of students and faculty members, which would constitute a significant addition to the health sector in Palestine and ensure the building of advanced nursing and research knowledge.

The AAUP Faculty of Nursing Holds an Orientation Day for New Students

The Faculty of Nursing at the Arab American University, in cooperation with the Student Union Council, has held an orientation meeting for first-year students for the new Academic Year, since they were met by Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Lobna Harazne, Vice Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Sajed Ghawadreh and Head of the Department, Mr. Hisham Zahran.

Dr. Lobna welcomed the students and introduced them to the guidance plan, in addition to answering their inquiries about the registration for the Spring Semester. She explained the regulations and instructions which are of interest to the students and applied by the Faculty.

An Aaup Student Participates in the Un Climate Change Conference in the United Arab Emirates

Zina Rafidi, a student majoring in Medicine at the Arab American University who is a volunteer with Jerusalem Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), participated in the UN Climate Change Conference COP28 held in the United Arab Emirates.

Rafidi said about this experience "I was so proud to represent Palestine in this international conference, and the experience was inspiring, whereby the conference provided a platform for dialogue, cooperation and advocacy. I feel a sense of a new obligation to defend everyone's environment and rights; particularly those who are facing different challenges from those faced by me". She also pointed out that the support provided by them as youth was not limited to logistic aspects, but their participation formed a sense of community spirit and collective identity.

A Student of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Toxicology Master's Program Publishes a Research in a Reputable Scientific Journal

Student Iman Faris, a researcher of Molecular Genetics and Genetic toxicology Master's Program at the Arab American University, published a research article in Frontiers in Genetics (Impact Factor "IF" 4.772) on the Master's Thesis titled: "Genomic analysis of a Palestinian family with inherited cancer syndrome: a next-generation sequencing study", supervised of Dr. Zaydoun Salah and Dr. Nouar Qutob.

The study focused on using the techniques of (Whole Exome Sequencing) to identify the skin cancer-causing mutations in a Palestinian family. The findings revealed a genetic mutation "ERCC2 (p.R683Q)" which was inherited in the family, which may be responsible for causing the skin cancer.  The study sheds light on the importance of studying genetic mutations of cancer patients and their families in Palestine to guide the diagnosis and management for patients and their families.

The Faculty of Data Science Holds a Meeting for Its Students With the Businessman "Bassam Walweel", Titled "Entrepreneurship"

The Faculty of Data Science has organized a lecture titled "Entrepreneurship” that was presented by the Businessman (Mr. Bassam Walweel) who is considered one of the most prominent entrepreneurs in Palestine.  

Walweel tackled several topics in this motivational lecture, and particularly, the concept of leadership, its importance and types, and he stressed the importance of developing the innovation skills and creative thinking. He also provided tips and practical examples of how to convert ideas into successful projects and the way of handling the challenges.

AAUP Concludes a Training Course for Local Government Employees

The Arab American University has held a training course for Local Government and authorities’ employees titled "Management and Strategic Planning in Response to Risks".  

 

Dr. Laila Herzallah, Assistant to the President of the University for Community Affairs, highlighted the AAUP's endeavors to provide the local community with competencies and experience, which in turn contribute to sustainable development and empower the employees with scientific and practical skills and capabilities. The training course was held following the University's visit to the Local Government in order to identify the needs of employees.

The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Meets the New Students

The Faculty of Medicine at the Arab American University has held an orientation meeting with first-year students for the Academic Year 2023/2024, since they were met by Dean of the Faculty, Dr. Malek Zaben, and both of his Assistants; Dr. Ramez Zaid and Ms. Areej Shalbak. 

Dr. Malek welcomed the students, praised their commitment, attendance and choosing the major of Medicine, involving its long and arduous path on the one hand and challenging for creativity and achievement on the other. Moreover, Dr. Malek shared the story of his scientific career in order to encourage and motivate students to move forward with the aim of attaining their scientific dream and career.        

The meeting also included short lectures, in which they have been introduced to the Faculty of Medicine and the means of communication between the Faculty and students.

Part of the Lectures

The Faculty of Medicine at the Arab American University, in collaboration with the International Medical Education Trust, concluded the lecture series of “Teaching The Teachers” Program, which comes within the policy of the University and Faculty of Medicine for the advancement of medical education in the University in particular and Palestine in general.

Prof. Dr. Mohammad Asia, AAUP Vice President, inaugurated the Program with a speech in which he welcomed the attendees, praising the efforts of the International Medical Education Trust (IMET), along with its interest and initiative to provide such crucial trainings that strive to improve the academic performance of the teaching staff at the Medical Faculties of the University. Prof. Dr. Asia highlighted that the University's supports and encourages these crucial trainings which fall within the University's development plans of its academic staff.
