This course will cover designs and methods for genetic epidemiology studies. Several population genetics concepts relevant to understanding genetic epidemiology designs and statistical tools will be introduced including concepts of quantitative and qualitative traits, genetic risk models, migration and admixture, inbreeding and allele/haplotype frequency estimation. Interaction assessment will also be presented Research methods for evaluating genetic influences on disease and risk factors and genetic-environmental interactions. Study designs and statistical methods include twin studies, family studies, population-based association studies, segregation analysis, and linkage analysis population will be discussed.
