This course will covere the current concepts of genetics with concentration on human genetics; it will provide information regarding etiology, molecular features, testing and treatment of a variety of human genetic disorders. It will cover advanced knowledge of the molecular mutagenesis. It will also provide the theory and hands-on experience of laboratory techniques currently used in diagnostic cytogenetics. The student will acquire the skills and techniques required to process blood, amniotic fluid and solid tissue specimens from receipt to chromosome analysis. It will also address some advanced genetic issues such as mitochondrial disorders, microdeletions and duplications and methylation.
