This course involves thorough discussion on understanding the modern approach to elucidate the spectrum of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and mutations in specific target genes in correlation with the efficacy of drug therapy to treat serious diseases. The strategy of linking specific target genes to a particular disease will be discussed including direct approach, second generation sequencing, genome wide association (GWA) and other approaches. Current successful investigations and applications to serious diseases including thrombophelia, leukemias and Lymphomas will be utilized as model systems to illustrate the potential of using genetics to develop patients' oriented therapy in order to optimize drug response and minimize treatment duration.
