Arab American University Board of Trustees discussed during its regular meeting academic and administrative development, attracting rare scientific talents from abroad, ways to enhance scientific research, develop new specialties to meet local and regional market needs and develop relations with international universities.
The meeting chaired by the Board of Trustees Chairman Dr. Mohammed Shtayeh in presence of Chairman of Directors Board and Trustees Board member Dr. Yousef Asfour, University President Prof. Dr. Ali Zidan Abu Zuhri, Board members, the Board Academic Advisor and founder president Dr. Wleed Deeb and University President Financial and Administrative Affairs Assistant Dr. Faleh Abu Arra.
Chairman of Trustees Board Dr. Shtayeh opened the meeting with a speech to thank the Board, Management and University Presidency for their efforts to develop the University and achieve many outstanding accomplishments in academic, research and infrastructure aspects.
“University's Board of Trustees is very happy with the outstanding academic level that the university achieved and seeks to develop permanently. They’re proud of the academic achievements made by developing many disciplines and international scientific partnerships”. He added “Thanks to every working hand that helped make the Arab American University dream comes true and to remain outstanding academic landmark for all historic Palestine’s people”.
After approving previous meeting summery, the Board listened to University President Prof. Dr. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri submitted report on the university academic development: students numbers, graduates, specializations turnout, staff numbers, specializations and programs that awaits Ministry of Higher Education accreditation and necessity to open new disciplines to meet local, Arab and international labor market needs. It referred to follow-up with joint master programs with international universities, similar to the current joint programs with Universities of Indiana American and British Coventry. He explained the steps to strengthen the university scientific research and production.
The Council discussed the importance of academic programs annual reviewing, propose amendments, evaluate and develop them from employers and labor market point of view in general, add “dynamic” courses, attract rare scientific expertise from abroad and encourage academics to complete graduate studies in strategic disciplines. Also develop new disciplines to meet the local and regional market needs, focus mainly on technology and develop relations with international universities.
Dr. Yousif Asfour, Chairman of the Board, said “On behalf of the university Directors Board and members, I would like to thank the Board of Trustees for developing the University to become like international universities. He added, we at the board shall proceed our path of building and provide everything to enhance our youth’s success as they are our future leaders. The university message is scientific, national and challenging as we Palestinians capable to build a homeland to cherish and get the world’s respect”.
Board of Trustees Chairman and Board of Directors VP commended all efforts made to develop the university and its infrastructure to serve education. Also Board of Trustees praised efforts of University President, his deputies, assistants and all staffs. Moreover, thanks to Directors Board for providing all the University necessary requirements and scholarships it provides to outstanding students and those in need.
