Master Thesis Defense on Cyberspace Violations at University

Wednesday, December 27, 2017

Researcher Alaa Aldeen Saleh Al-Abdallah, a computer science student at the Arab American University Faculty of Graduate Studies, defended his master thesis entitled “Smart Solution for the Renewed Cyberspace Violations”.

During the thesis defense

The thesis addressed two problems related to intrusion detection systems: improving the systems performance in cyberspace and increasing the ability to classify secondary classes in environments that have an imbalance in the number of class registers. Also it proposed to merge Stratified Sampling method and Cost-function with two automatic learning algorithms; SVM and ELM.

The proposed method was applied to two significant global databases, results showed that the research purpose was achieved, and in order to resolve some of the other intrusion detection issues such as detecting electronic attacks that have never occurred, the thesis recommended using a set of algorithms “One Class Classification method”.

At the end of the defense, the committee of the Thesis Supervisor and Head of committee Prof. Dr. Mohammad Awad, Arab American University internal examiner Dr. Amjad Rattroot, and external examiner from Polytechnic University – Palestine Dr. Mohammad AL-Dasht, decided to give the student Alaa Al-Abdallah a master degree.
