The University Honors the First Group of Participating Students in the GoTech Initiative

Hassib Sabbagh Center for Information Technology Excellence in the University honored a group of students from the higher education directorates’ schools in Jenin, Tubas and Qabatiya who benefited from “GoTech” initiative, implemented by the Center in partnership with the companies Glow Innovations and ElectroTech and the higher education directorates.

Participating Students in the GoTech Initiative

The program lasted over two months, benefiting eighty students. The program aims to enhance their skills in electronics and technology, in addition to develop their potential in project presentation and working within a team. It was mainly based on simulate practical experiences in the Technology Information curriculum of the Ministry of Higher Education, so that participants can practice these experiments practically in equipped laboratories.

The training program had four main axes: analogue electronics, digital electronics, Arduino and App Inventor. The participating students in the initiative were taught by a group of students and graduates of the Faculty of Engineering and IT at the university using special educational materials, tools and applications that’s suitable for each age group. The participating students were chosen after being interviewed by a specialized committee and divided into classes according to the prescribed training material in the initiative program.

The ceremony were inaugurated by university VP for Training Affairs Dr. Nizam Diab, representing the President of the University Prof. Dr. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri, who welcomed the attendees and stressed on the importance of cooperation between the university and civil society institutions especially schools and education directorates to equip students with scientific skills and implement joint programs that bridge the gap between schools and universities students’.

Dr. Ehab Al-Qubaj Assistant Undersecretary for Higher Education Affairs represented the Minister of Higher Education Dr. Sabri Mamdouh Saidam, in a speech during which he stressed on the joint cooperation between the Ministry and the University, which seeks to emphasize it is a university that serves society. Also harness their potential in innovative, creative projects and ideas that serve the community and help solving societal problems.

As for Dr. Muath Sobha, Advisor of the University President for the Universities Classification and a member of the Board of Directors of the Hassib Sabbagh Center, talked about the Center strategic objectives to develop the relationship between the university and the local community in general.

Eng. Hassan Omar Director of Glow Innovations Company and one of GoTech's partners, highlighted the importance of vocational guidance for school students. This experience helped to discover and enrich the talents of interested students, as well as the initiative role in training students on entrepreneurship and innovation.

Finally, Eng. Raed Hijawi, one of the founders of Electrotech Company, presented a summary of what was accomplished in the program’s first phase and put forward the new orientation of the second phase which be more specialized towards modeling electronic circuits especially interface controllers of various sensors.

The ceremony was attended by members of the Board of Directors of Hassib Sabbagh Center, Head of Technology Department Mr. Hani Daraghmeh representing the Director of the Jenin Education Directorate, the Director of Education Directorate in Tubas Mr. Saed Qabha, Director of the Technical Department Mr. Fawaz Abdulhay representing the Director of Education Directorate in Qabatya, a group of school principals, teachers and parents of students, and a number of faculty members, administrators and university students, and the participating students in the program, who were honored with appreciation certificates, and presented part of their projects during the ceremony.
