Tuesday, April 2, 2024

The Arab American University has recently obtained membership in the World Council of Optometry (WCO) in an important step towards strengthening its global presence and contribution to the field of optometry.

This achievement reflects the University’s continued commitment to promoting active participation in developing skills and standards of education and scientific research for the optometry profession at the local and international levels. This membership also represents international recognition that reflects the quality of the University’s educational and research programs.

This membership gives AAUP the opportunity to participate effectively in international conferences and forums, benefit from the privileges of permanent membership, and attend periodic sessions of the Council. It also provides unique opportunities for students and academics in the Department of Optometry to participate in global research initiatives and exchange experiences with international specialists, in addition to developing curricula and participating in academic exchange programs, which enhances educational capabilities and contributes to the development of the optometry profession at the Palestinian level.

It is noteworthy that the Arab American University offers the major of optometry for bachelor’s and master’s degrees at its Ramallah campus, where students are provided with the scientific knowledge and practical skills necessary to practice this field proficiently and professionally.

The World Council of Optometry was founded in 1927 as an international organization currently headquartered in the United States of America. It is concerned with developing the profession of optometry with the goal of improving vision care and expanding access to education and specialized training in this field.
