A delegation from the Arab American University visited the municipality of Sakhnin in the Occupied Palestinian Territory to discuss student matters, enhance cooperation and discuss a set of ideas for holding joint activities between the two parties. The visit aimed also to introduce the university, its specializations, academic programs as well as research and medical centers.
The university delegation included the Dean of the Faculty of Sport Sciences, Dr. Main Zakarneh, and from public relations, Mr. Ahmed Mousa, Mr. Ahmed Abu Tul, and the two students, Aya Mahajneh, and Ronza Shtewi.
The university delegation was received by the Mayor of Sakhnin Municipality, Dr. Safwat Abu Raya, and the Director of Public Relations in the Municipality, Dr. Ghazal Abu Raya, in addition to members of the People's Committee, the Parents' Board of Trustees in Sakhnin, and the lecturer at the Faculty of Nursing at the University, Dr. Waleed Shalata.
During the meeting, several topics were discussed, most notably the facilities provided by AAUP for the enrollment of Occupied Palestinian Territory students in the University, training students of medical faculties in hospitals and health centers, and strengthening cooperation through the establishment of joint activities between the municipality of Sakhnin to introduce students of city schools to the specializations and programs of the Arab American University. Introductory videos were shown about the University, its majors, and what distinguishes these majors. In the visit, the delegation presented an invitation to the municipality of Sakhnin, the Student Parents Council, and members of the People's Committee to visit the University and get to know it closely and meet the students.
The Mayor, Dr. Abu Raya, praised AAUP, and the modern sciences it offers, and world-class academic programs, pointing out that the University's graduates from Palestinian students in general and Sakhnin students in particular are distinguished by the competence and the necessary skills needed in the labor market in the Occupied Palestinian Territory in various fields.
For his part, Dr. Zakarneh thanked Sakhnin Municipality, represented by its Mayor, the People's Committee, and the Students' Parents Council. He also stressed that the University is in constant contact with the various Palestinian institutions, students, and their families to discuss ideas and matters of interest to students as well as the challenges they face. Dr. Zakarneh pointed out that the Arab American University is the University of all Palestinians and all Palestinians participate in the efforts towards the achievements it made to build an educated and literate generation capable of advancing the institutions of the society and serving its people in all places of the Palestinian presence on all parts of the homeland.
The universit y delegation visited the Sakhnin Museum, where it was briefed by the organizers of the visit on the most important contents of the museum in terms of valuable Palestinian heritage and collectibles, in addition to a tour in the city of Sakhnin.
