AAUP Wins the Project of Reforming the Governance of Ph.D. Programs at Palestinian Higher Education Institutions

The Arab American University - Palestine has made a new achievement in addition to its previous ones in terms of international projects funded by the Erasmus program of the European Union. The University won the funding provided by the European Union in the amount of 868 thousand Euros, which will be allocated for the implementation of its project entitled: "Reforming the Governance of Ph.D. Programs at Palestinian Higher Education Institutions" "Reforming the Governance of Ph.D. Programs at Palestinian Higher Education Institutions- PhDGov

The Arab American University submitted a project proposal to the European Erasmus Program at the beginning of this year. The project passed all stages of evaluation successfully and outperformed dozens of proposals submitted by many other Palestinian higher education institutions to finally win the funding. Al-Quds University, Birzeit University, An-Najah National University, Palestine Technical University - Kadoorie, in addition to the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education, participate in the project led by the Arab American University.

In addition to the Palestinian universities, the project will be implemented in partnership with three European universities: RWTH Aachen University in Germany, Vrije Universiteit Brussel in Belgium, and Kungliga Tekniska Hoegskolan in Sweden.

The project, which will be implemented in partnership with a number of distinguished European universities, aims to enhance academic excellence and build the capacities of Palestinian universities, especially partner universities, by developing their capabilities in designing, developing and managing successful Ph.D. programs that will enrich the scientific and research production of Palestinian higher education institutions and meet the industrial, scientific and social needs.

For his part, the President of the Arab American University, Prof. Dr. Ali Zedan Abu Zuhri, said that the university's winning in this project will enrich the academic process of the Palestinian universities and will contribute to enhancing their academic excellence by learning from the best practices applied in the most prestigious European universities in Germany, Belgium and Sweden being deep-rooted universities known for their academic excellence. Prof. Dr. Abu Zuhri thanked the team who worked on the project proposal in the office of the Vice President for Planning, Development and Quality Affairs as well as the colleagues from the partner universities, which contributed to the preparation of the proposal submitted for funding.

In turn, Dr. Adli Saleh, the Advisor to the Board of Directors and Vice President of the University for Planning, Development and Quality, thanked the Erasmus National Office in Palestine, represented by Prof. Dr. Abdel Karim Daraghmeh and the office team. Dr. Saleh confirmed that the university will make, in partnership with its colleagues from partner universities and the Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education, all efforts to achieve the best results out of this project. He pointed out that the partnership with the Ministry of Higher Education will achieve the best results, not only at the level of partner universities, but also at the level of all Palestinian universities and higher education institutions, based on the ministry's leadership role in developing the higher education sector in Palestine.
