Jenin’s Mayor meets some of the Arab American University students to discuss some of their issues

Saturday, November 29, 2014

The Arab American University hosted General Ibrahim Ramadan, Jenin’s mayor and one of the members of the board of trustees of the university to an open discussion with students that was organized by the students’ affairs department under the auspices of Professor Mahmoud Abu Mwais to discuss some of the students issues and cases, and to know the students’ situation and their needs.
Professor Abu Mwais started the meeting by greeting and welcoming the mayor and the accompanied delegation. He said “welcome to this great place of the north of Palestine, at the Arab American Univeristy that I always say that it is American in its curricular, Arabic in its style, Palestinian in its love and its production is from Jenin. Today we meet in Jenin, the city of the great people, the city of the person who spent years in jails and stood up nights to serve the city and keep the safe that he built in one hand, while the other hand was busy to develop the city, so welcome with me the mayor who came to see you today.”
The mayor thanked the president who gave him this chance to see students, and expressed his appreciation to the university in giving knowledge to students and in gathering all the Palestinians from all over the Palestinian land under its ceiling.

He also asserted on the sacredness of the university, and mentioned that the university is not measured by its buildings, but by the students and the learning that they get in it. He asked students to keep their university on top and make it a minaret to education. He also asserted on the idea of fighting anyone who try to differentiate between the west bank Palestinians and the Palestinians from the lands of 48, because we are one people and we must be one unit.
He said: “everybody looks at the old history and they are proud of it, but we didn’t continue the journey of our ancestors, then the west continued what we should have continued. But now I look at you full of hope that you can hold the message and be responsible to teach the world that no power on earth could vanish us. We are here to say just like Ben Amer Meadow, we will fight for freedom and that is what I will always ask for.
He listened to the students’ questions and inquiries and he answered them.

Professor Abu Mwais honored the mayor “General Ramadan” and gave him a certificate to show his appreciation for his efforts and his role in keeping Jenin’s city safe, and his major role in enhancing the university’s role in development locally and internationally.
