Master in Molecular Toxicology

Overview

The Molecular Toxicology Master Program focuses on developing, disseminating and applying new research knowledge in the fields of molecular, cell toxicology, environmental chemistry and ecotoxicology to improve prevention and treatment of human diseases, in addition to ensuring the protection of the environment and public health. This comprehensive approach, incorporating both the biological and physical sciences, offers exciting training and learning opportunities for graduate students and supports competitive research programs. The Molecular Toxicology provides a highly collegial and exceptionally collaborative research and training environment dedicated to the success and advancement of students and faculty.

Molecular toxicology is a multidisciplinary subject involving the study of mechanisms for the action of environmental toxins on humans and other organisms and the behavior of these toxins in the environment. The Molecular Toxicology program provides students with expertise in at least one field plus a broad understanding of other specialties that contribute to addressing molecular toxicology issues.

This master program in Molecular Toxicology at AAUP is expected to provide exceptional graduates who will be capable to fill the gaps and meet the needs of this specialty in Palestine.

Goals

  1. Provide graduate students with knowledge for interpreting the adverse human health effects associated with environmental toxicants.
  2. Prepare graduate students to better understand the broad and complex challenges in the environmental health sciences and position them for future careers.
  3.  Apply prevention and treatment modalities of human disease related to chemicals and toxicants in the environment to ensure public health safety.
  4. Equip graduate students with the needed skills to assess risks associated with exposure and to devise methods for minimizing exposure and designing processes for mitigation and remediation.
  5. Enrich students with research skills experience through a Master’s thesis and seminar studies.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

After completion, the program requirements the students are expected to:

  • Use substantive knowledge and expertise in environmental and molecular toxicology related sciences in the prevention and treatment of diseases.
  • Acquire substantive knowledge on emerging issues and trends in the fields of environmental chemistry, ecotoxicology.
  • Appreciate the molecular mechanisms behind the deleterious effects of selected chemicals and environmental toxicants at the cellular level.
  • Predict the effects of toxicants on the organ level as a consequence of environmental toxicants/chemicals exposure.
  • Analyze and critically evaluate the scientific literature of environmental toxicology
