Environmental Management and Recycling

Overview

Environmental management tries to identify the factors that have a stake in the conflicts that may rise between meeting the needs but protecting the environment.

Environmental challenges require complex solutions, bringing together scientific, social, political and economic perspectives. This Program will provide students with the interdisciplinary perspective and diverse skillset to help solve environmental problems in a leadership role. Graduates can help the Palestinian community manage environmental concerns responsibly, making a positive impact and supporting the common good.

This degree with a specialization in waste management provides students with the skills needed to manage, organize, and respond to issues related to waste production and reduction. By focusing on sustainability and paths forward to address waste produced on a local, national, and international scale, this program provides students with the practical tools and policy-based information necessary to pursue waste management jobs in administrative, scientific, or engineering fields

 

Goals

  • Instill within students the knowledge of the theoretical concepts and practical methodologies of environmental management.
  • Strengthen the student’s understanding impact of recycling and waste management on environmental management and sustainability.
  • Promote in students an understanding of the societal, environmental and economic aspects of environmental management.
  • Develop the student’s ability to think critically and provide sustainable solutions to organizations and communities.
  • Provide the student with analytical skills to solve large-scale recycling and waste management problems.
  • Enable the students to apply tools and techniques to analyze environmental management research questions.
  • Strengthen the student’s abilities to lead organizations in an ethical manner and to integrate diverse approaches to sustainability.

 

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in current and emerging recycling and waste management techniques and relate them environmental management and sustainability.
  2. Evaluate different recycling and waste management strategies and formulate practices that help promote an organization or community’s sustainability goals.
  3. Use critical thinking to resolve recycling and waste management challenges and make strategic decisions that have a positive environmental impact.
  4. Employ statistical and computer tools to analyze complex questions and conduct research in environmental management and sustainability.
  5. Develop an understanding of the challenges of recycling and waste management and successfully manage the policy implications and environmental and economic benefits and costs.
  6. Assume leadership positions in environmental management and effectively manage the conflicts and opposition to change that arise.
  7. Evaluate legal and ethical issues as they apply to environmental management locally and globally.
