Architecture Engineering

Overview

The curriculum of the architecture engineering program equips student with the theoretical and practical skills. The department provides the student with opportunities for practical training. Together, these two features of our program prepare the student to join the employment market as designers and architectural engineers with ample knowledge of sustainable design and the construction and technical requirement of the building industry.

The Architectural Engineering (AE) program prepare students to be effective in shaping a sustainable built environment in Palestine and in the region. The student specializing in AE will explore engineering design building construction, structures, electrical and mechanical systems.

The AE program will take care of structural integrity of buildings, the design and analysis of heating, ventilating and air- conditioning and plumbing, fire protection, and electrical systems, acoustics lighting, energy conservation, building science and the study of building performance.

Goals

  • Efficiently use relevant building engineering knowledge and skills in professional practice.
  •  Efficiently design and evaluate architectural engineering systems to satisfy client needs according to engineering specifications and interdisciplinary requirements.
  • Successfully manage real-life engineering problem to achieve practical and optimal solutions.
  • Commit to social, economic, and environmental issues and practice high ethical standards in the profession.
  • Develop leadership technological capabilities, collaboration, and technical communication skills, and update knowledge through lifelong learning.
  • Understand the relationship between architecture and other engineering disciplines.
  • Develop critical thinking and the acquisition of necessary skills and tools for professional and academic progress and career.

STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOME

Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to

A) Professional Program Learning Outcomes.

  1. Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
  2. Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of safety, public health and welfare.
  3. Communicate effectively with audience.
  4. Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgement.
  5. Use the techniques, skills and modern engineering tools necessary for architectural engineering practice.

B) Technical Program Learning Outcomes:

  1. identify and articulate the importance of sustainability to architectural engineering and apply its principles, including those related to high-performance buildings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and embedded systems, to the design of building systems
  2. Apply relevant knowledge, techniques, skills and modern engineering tools to identify, formulate and solve engineering problems, including problems in: a) designing, building, and operating mechanical systems; b) designing and building structural systems; d) designing, building and operating electrical power and lighting systems.
  3. Solve architectural engineering problems by integrating knowledge from at least two of the design specialties - mechanical, structural, or electrical -with knowledge of architectural design and/or construction management.
  4. Apply basic principles of project management and construction management to the design, construction and operation of building systems, according to building regulations and standards.
  5. Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make informed judgments, which consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.

Careers of Graduates

Graduates of the program will be well prepared for careers as consulting engineers, building contractors, construction managers, structural engineers, and knowledge specialists in related areas of building design and analysis.
