The Arab American University and the Palestinian National Library signed a cooperation agreement for the sake of exchanging cultural and scientific experiences and preserving the Palestinian cultural heritage.
The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Ali Zedan Abu Zuhri, President of the University, and Mr. Issa Qaraqe, Head of the Palestinian National Library, on the University campus in Ramallah, with the presence of officials from both parties.
Prof. Dr. Abu Zuhri confirmed that the University seeks to consolidate its relations with the local community and its institutions and cooperate with them to achieve cultural and scientific development and renaissance. He added: “The National Library is an essential reference for students and researchers and facilitates the process of searching for information and subscribing to the electronic and other libraries. The agreement aims to harness possible university expertise to serve the National Library based on the importance of the role for which it was established.
In turn, Qaraqe said that the cooperation agreement is important at the national and cultural levels for the Palestinian National Library project. He added that the terms of the agreement include cooperation and coordination with AAUP to benefit from its academic and cultural expertise in the future by holding seminars and exhibitions as well as opening up to international institutions.
It is noteworthy that the Palestinian National Library was established by presidential decree in 2019 in order to restore the Palestinian national memory, which is threatened with loss and forgery by the occupation.
