Aiming to obtain the European academic quality accreditation program
Arab American University has organized an international advanced course for its medical academic staff about Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) which is the first of its kind in the Palestinian universities.
This course came as part of obtaining the ADEE LEADER program that contributes in achieving the vision of AAUP towards excellence and globalism, and in upgrading the academic education level in the university to equalize the international universities in general and the European in specific.
The four-day course will be provided by specialized international experts from University of Leeds via video conference, and will focus intensively on the OSCE which is a practical and realistic approach to learning, and a kind of examination that is mostly used in the health sciences.
This examination is also to test the clinical skills proficiency as each candidate of OSCE will face the same problem and will be asked to do the same task in the same time frame. Each task in OSCE is about a realistic clinical case and these examinations aim to evaluate the capabilities of students to implement the clinical knowledge and skills when they see a real patient or write a report or consult with a colleague, etc.
OSCE is a reliable assessment of the candidate's competency and is a good way in the high risk evaluations that affect the health and safety of the patients. It is also widely used in undergraduate, graduate and licensing assessments.
The course will be discussing multiple topics, such as a general introduction in the assessments in the medical colleges with a special focus on OSCE, its benefits and challenges, how to implement a practical approach to use OSCE in the curriculum, and talk about the standard situation and the grades to success.
