Molecular Genetics and Genetic Toxicology Laboratories in AAUP

In a recent survey study done by the poll center in Arab American University and after a field survey to try to know the rate of people who were infected by COVID-19, it was concluded that the Palestinian people are far from the herd immunity. The rate of the Palestinian people in the West Bank who are actually holding antibodies to the virus is less than 0.5%.

Researchers took over 1335 random samples from Palestinians living in the different cities of the West Bank who agreed to be part of the study. The samples were laboratory tested to find out if there are any COVID-19 antibodies in the participants’ blood.

Results showed that only 0.5% of Palestinian people have antibodies of the virus and concluded that the Palestinian people are far away from the “herd immunity” and is still susceptible to be infected with the virus.

Prof. Atef Qasrawi

According to the recent announcement in ResearchGate, Prof. Atef Qasrawi- an AAUP Professor and Researcher in Physics and Nanotechnology was ranked amongst 2.5% best researchers for 2019 in the Scientists and Researchers list that contains almost 17 million scientists and graduate students from all over the world.

Prof. Atef Qasrawi, who is also a member of the Higher Council for Innovation and Excellence since 2013, said that “It is an honor for me to reach this level after the hard work and effort, especially with all the support from Arab American University, and I have been ranked previously top 5% between 5 million scientists and researchers in 2017.”

Prof. Qasrawi indicated that the ResearchGate assess the “ISI” publications in its evaluation, which are accredited by the international institution of Clarivate and Thomson Reuters for Statistics and Scientific Research.

Part of the online Seminar via Zoom

Under collaboration between the Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences in Arab American University and the Consumer Protection Association, AAUP organized an online Seminar through Zoom, entitled “The e-marketing reality during COVID-19 pandemic”. 

Dr. Abdulbaset Rabaaya- the Dean of the Faculty of Administrative and Financial Sciences opened the Seminar and praised the rapid development that the e-marketing is witnessing. He presented some statistics of the marketing budgets of USA and UK and said that 65% of internet users in Palestine use smart devices.

Dr. Mahmoud Yasin, a professor in AAUP talked about the importance of social media in the e-marketing business, and said that nowadays most companies use the social media to market their products online.

The work in the research laboratories in Arab American University

Arab American University received an approval from Ministry of Health to start using its laboratories for COVID-19 tests. Ms. May Alkaila- the Minister of Health wrote that this approval was based on the fact that the university has an efficient team to do the tests, and that this will contributes in controlling the infected cases. The minister ensured that the ministry will start transferring some of the cases to AAUP laboratories in case if the pandemic got any worse.

Prof. Ali Zeidan Abu Zuhri- the University President said that the accreditation from the Palestinian Ministry of Health for the AAUP laboratories in Ramallah to start doing the COVID-19 tests came after the ministry ensured that all the scientific developed medical devices are available, in addition to the efficient and professional team to deal with patients.

The Palestinian intellectual Prof. Rashid Khalidi

The Policy and Conflict Resolution Studies Center in Arab American University hosted the well-known Palestinian intellectual Prof. Rashid Khalidi - Edward Said Professor of Arab Studies at Columbia University to an online symposium via Zoom to launch his new book “The 100 Years’ War on Palestine: A History of Settler Colonization and Resistance, 1917-2017”

Ms. Rula Shahwan – the Director of the Center started the symposium by welcoming the guest and the audience. She indicated the importance of such dialog and academic seminars and its role in enriching the knowledge of AAUP students in specific and the Palestinian students in general.

The dialog was moderated by Dr. Nahid Habiballah- the Social Sciences Professor and a Faculty member in the Faculty of Graduate Studies in Arab American University.

Trying to discover the genetic mutations for COVID-19 in Palestine

Under supervision of Academic staff from AAUP, AAUP Masters’ students of the Molecular Genetics and Genetic Toxicology Program and experts from the Ministry of Health, Arab American University in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Health launched a research project to study the genetic sequencing for COVID-19 between the Palestinian patients.

This research will provide new visions about the factors behind the development of the virus and how to follow-up the changes in the virus in our country. In addition, this research will provide answers to many questions about the virus that will help specialists and the authority to determine future mechanisms to deal with the virus and help to contain it in Palestine.

AAUP donation of 200 kits of medical and preventive supplies to the Palestinian Ministry of Health to help in facing COVID-19

Celebrating its 20th year, Arab American University will be pleased to share its success story and rapid response during the Corona pandemic and how it started the e-learning at the beginning of the Spring Semester that started due to the case of emergency caused by the spread of COVID-19.

Before going in depth in this successful and positive experiment, and how Arab American University has managed to switch to the e-learning since the beginning of the spread of COVID-19, it is important to mention that AAUP was established in 2000 and it is an emerging Palestinian university that managed to keep up with the latest and most current scientific and research development during the last 20 years just like the best universities around the world.

The COVENT Ventilator

Directed by Dr. Yousef Asfour- the Head of the Board of Directors, Arab American University contributed in supporting the “COVENT Ventilator” project that is considered to be the first of its kind in Palestine.

This device is used for emergency cases only and has safety features that guarantee safe ventilation process with no complications. It is an electromechanical device with electromechanical parts, and the main part of it is the DC Motor that is connected to the device through an Oxygen Intake Cylinder Module that helps in the vital breathing process of inspiration and expiration.

Speakers in Online Seminar through ZOOM about " Sports Investment during and after Corona "

Under the auspices of Major General Jibril Rajoub, and with collaboration between Arab Federation for Sports Culture and the Palestinian Olympic Committee, Arab American University hosted an online seminar through Zoom entitled “Sports Investment during and after Corona”

Prof. Sa’d Shalbi – the Sports Economics Professor in Mansoura University and the Adviser for President of Jeddah University and Al Ahli Club for Marketing, was part of this online seminar and talked about the basics of marketing and investment in the Arab World especially for the Palestinian case that he considered as a model for success due to the high use of technology in Palestine especially by the youth.
